The 2026 NASCAR season is underway, and what better way than to kick off the year with two superspeedway races assured to level out the playing field early. Last week? Magic. The most viewed NASCAR race within the past couple years ended with Tyler Reddick proving his mettle- smart positioning and a whole lotta patience to take the checkered flag at the Daytona 500. And the weekend just felt special- the once-controversial Chase format was welcomed home, as the most controversial postseason format in NASCAR history was put to bed. And, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you now know that Michael Jordan continued to pad his championship ring collection with the addition of the Daytona 500. Priceless. Now, onto EchoPark Speedway.
Yes, you heard that correctly. No longer Atlanta Motor Speedway, EchoPark has played second-fiddle to the Daytona 500 for quite some time and, with the repave, continues to provide the superspeedway fun and chaos that so much of the fanbase craves. It’s the home track of NASCAR’s most popular driver- Chase Elliott looks to defend his win last summer as he rolls off 4th in his NAPA chevy this afternoon. But his defensive efforts won’t come without effort, as a young and hungry field will look to gain early season momentum with a win in Atlanta. So, let’s get to it.
Driver to Fade:

I know. Interesting pick, right? It’s the safest (seems like it) fade this week given the level playing field that EchoPark offers us. Cody Ware, if you didn’t know, has a hell of a lot racing talent. But it’s the old “equipment” excuse- he’s on a small team with a moderate budget. After leading a little bit last week, Ware didn’t make too much noise at Daytona. We suspect not much will change on Sunday afternoon. Ware for the fade.
Dark Horse:

He nearly had his third Daytona victory last week when Carson Hocevar nailed the wall at the entry of Turn 1, spinning onto the apron and taking a few others with him, leaving Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in what many thought was the catbird seat for taking the checkered. Unfortunately, NASCAR seems to have adopted a different philosophy this season on throwing the yellow so quickly. Last year, EchoPark was good to the man from Mississippi- he recorded two Top 10s after a slew of less-than-superb finishes. Given his starting position today (3rd), and his newfound luck at EchoPark, we’re taking Stenhouse to keep things interesting Sunday afternoon with a Top 16 finish.
Top 10:

Feels like it’s all but a given for the man from Georgia. He looks to show up and show out at his home track, and he has plenty of reason to feel good. He’ll be defending a win last summer when he rolls off the grid P4 this afternoon. And dammit, he’s a superspeedway fiend. Barring a little controversy or an unlikely exit, there’s every reason to feel good about Chase Elliott’s chances for a win tomorrow, and even better about a Top 10 finish. And I admit… that NAPA wrap is just plain old badass. Agree?
Winner:

Bold. REAL BOLD. And maaaaaaaaaaan was he close last week. EchoPark will likely be his best chance for a while for the Spire Motorsports prodigy to break through with his first Cup Series win. And frankly? There’s no reason to think he can’t get the job done. No, he doesn’t have a lot of allies around him at any given time. And no, he’s not the gentlest of pushers on a superspeedway. But he’s shown his ability to get to the front (and stay) in middle-of-the-road equipment. We’re choosing early season fireworks and predicting a Carson Hocevar victory at the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway this afternoon!
