2024 the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday Predictions

“Jack’s Tournament” is always a fun weekend with the game’s top stars all here. Another elevated event with no cut, and the defending champion, Victor Hovland, is back in the field. This tournament always delivers, as you can expect major fireworks on the weekend with the best golfers the tour has to offer. The Memorial is played at Muirfield Village Golf Club. I actually had the chance to play this course two summers ago, and it was incredible. Fairways are tight and pristine, greens quick as glass, and there isn’t a blade of grass out of place. After playing it, I’m putting an emphasis on ball striking this week. Muirfield is a par 72, and can be stretched out to just under 7,600 yards. Tight fairways and tough pin locations means I want some of the best iron players, as well as drivers of the golf ball this week. Look for the top players to rise to the top!

Player to Fade:

It’s been quite some time since Brandt Snedeker has made a name for himself. He’s made 4/15 cuts this year on tour, and I can’t see him turning it around this week with a difficult course on tap for these players. Brandt has been gaining strokes with his putter recently, but his off the tee game, as well as approach, has been in the negatives all year. That is not a recipe for success here this week. Look for him to be a non-factor all week!

Dark Horse:

Keegan Bradley has been quietly having a very good year on the PGA Tour. He’s made 10/13 cuts, has two top tens, and has been consistently popping up on leaderboards all year long. I believe ball striking to be very important this week, and Keegan has been excelling in that category as of late. He is consistently gaining strokes off the tee, as well as approach over the last month. If the putter gets hot, then look for him to be a factor on the weekend!

Top 10:

This seems to be automatic these days. Scottie Scheffler is on an absolute tear, and doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down. I haven’t seen a stretch like this since prime Tiger Woods. Scottie may not move the needle like Tiger does, but he is starting to become a crowd favorite. Scottie has 4 wins this season and 11 top 10s in 12 events, so you can expect to see Scottie battling for another win this weekend. Ball striking will be huge this week, so who doesn’t want one of the best ball strikers on tour right now. Give me Scottie for a top 10, and potentially the win.

Winner:

Collin Morikawa’s game has been trending in the right direction lately. He was just very close to winning his third major at the PGA Championship. He’s got 5 top tens this year, but he’s still looking for that elusive win. His approach game has been money as of late, and iron play will be very important here all week. He’s consistently gained strokes off the tee, and approach his last two events and that got him two top 5 finishes. If this trend continues, and he figures out a way to just be an average putter, then you can expect to see him at the very top of the leaderboard this weekend!
