2021 Valero Texas Open Predictions

The PGA Tour continues its trek through Texas this week with the 2021 Valero Texas Open. Read on to see my prediction for who will win the tournament, as well as my top 10, dark horse, and player to fade predictions.

Winner: Abraham Ancer- Ancer has been playing steady golf of late, finishing in the top 25 in 7 of his last 9 starts. Ancer has also played in this event 3 times, making the cut in all 3 starts, but finishing outside the top 40 all 3 times as well. Ancer has played consistently well of late and I believe that consistency will pay off with a win on Sunday.

Top 10: Chris Kirk- Kirk has shown flashes of brilliance this season with 5 top 20 results, including a runner up finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii. TPC San Antonio has been one of Kirk’s better tracks on tour, earning 3 top 15 finishes in this event since 2015. If Kirk can put together 4 solid rounds this week, a top 10 result is a lock.

Dark horse: Vincent Whaley- Although Whaley has never played in this event before, he has shown some form of late, making the cut in each of his last 4 starts, including a T-15 finish at the Puerto Rico Open. By no means will Whaley contend, but I believe a top 30 finish could be within his reach.

Player to fade: Luke Donald- Even though Donald was at one time the #1 player in the Official World Golf Rankings, his form has been far from it recently, missing 8 straight cuts and 13 of the last 15. Pair that with 2 missed cuts in 3 career starts in this event and it all adds up to another missed cut for Luke Donald this week.
